Marvel equivalent to Superman, Hyperionhad his most human arc ever when he raised a new species of children, and now those children are ready to make an unexpected comeback in the years to come Wolverine: Revenge of the Fallen series. The exact role of the “Children of the Sun” in Revenge remains under wraps, leaving fans eager to discover the extent of their updated role in Marvel continuity.

The preview of the next Wolverine: Revenge of the Fallen #1 – written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by Greg Capullo – features the adopted children of the hero Hyperion. As shown in the preview, the children still live in their birthplace, the Savage Land, and have recruited Wolverine, who they have worked alongside in the The Avengersto hunt down a dinosaur that has mysteriously gone wild.

This means that it’s possible that Hyperion himself – who has been absent without permission for years – could also return to this series to work alongside his former teammate Logan, despite being absent for a few years from publication.

is further definitive confirmation of the children’s place in the Marvel canon.

The Children of the Sun first appeared in The Avengers (Vol. 5) #4, created by Ex Nihilo, an alien “gardener” who creates life, as part of his attempt to forcibly terraform Earth. Born from pods in the Savage Land, the children were found by the newly formed Avengers, including Hyperion, the orphaned Superman analogue from a destroyed universe. Feeling close to these children, who were also one of a kind, Hyperion raised them as they aged rapidly, and they eventually became part of the Avengers’ support network, working for Sunspot and his version of AIM.

The Children last appeared in The New Avengers (2015)which takes place essentially after Jonathan Hickman’s story Secret Wars (2015)the event that shattered the multiverse and ended the previous one The Avengers era. The conclusion of Secret Warsreversed parts of the The Avengers run to introduce the children, so This later appearance served as confirmation that the Children doesn’t disappear when the universe was reset. This makes sense, since Hyperion himself also came back to life after-Secret Warsalthough Marvel has not been consistent with parts of this The Avengers the race took place. In other words, Wolverine: Revenge of the Fallen is further definitive confirmation of the children’s place in the Marvel canon.

The Children’s Return to Marvel Continuity Could Hint at Something Much Bigger

Writer Jonathan Hickman may be building something

The Black Swans in their human disguises, as nurses, in GODS #5

It would certainly be the most Hickman thing ever to write what appears to be a stand-alone book.

book, and then bring it into the multiversal mysteries he has built across several different titles.

The big question is whether the return of the Children of the Sun could be part of a larger plot by writer Jonathan Hickman beyond Wolverine: Revenge of the Fallen ,implying the return of his The Avengers characters. Hickman, who co-created The Children, is known for returning to his favorite characters and building larger plots over multiple books. On the one hand, characters like Hyperion have returned afterSecret Wars without any explanation. On the other hand, however, Hickman’s recent series GODS had a strong focus on pre-Secret Wars characters of his The Avengers return mysteriously, like the Black Swans, whose method of return was intentionally left unanswered.

It would certainly be the most Hickman thing ever to write what appears to be a stand-alone book. Wolverine book, only to bring it into the multiversal mysteries he has built across several different titles. It could also simply be a matter of convenience. If Hickman or Wolverine: Revenge of the Fallen Artist Greg Capullo just wanted an excuse for Logan to fight dinosaurs, so why not bring back a Hickman creation that lives in the Savage Land. Whether it’s a small part of a galactic plot, the return of Marvel Superman Hyperion “Children” is a welcome word.
